Scents

Layering guide

Wear two, smell like one

Two sprays can smell like a scent nobody else wears. Our four eau de parfums are made to work together: wear one on its own, or layer two into something that is yours.

  • 4 minute read
  • Four pairings to try

The three rules

Everything else is taste. Start with these and adjust.

  • Deep first, light on top

Spray the deeper scent first, closest to the skin, then the lighter one over it, where it is noticed first.

  • Two spots, one aura

Spray one scent on the wrists and the other on the neck or clothes. They meet in the air around you instead of on the skin.

  • Less of each

Layering adds strength. Use one spray of each instead of two, and build up from there.

Four pairings we love

Each pairing uses scents from the house. Tap either one to see its notes.

For weddings

Velvet over oud

Oud Eclipse first, then Makhmal on top. Rose and vanilla soften the smoke into something rich and warm.

For evenings

Pear on velvet

Makhmal under Pear Serenity gives the pear a soft, musky base that lasts long after dinner.

For the office

A fresher oud

One spray of Citrus Spark over Oud Eclipse makes it lighter and brighter for the working day.

For summer days

Citrus to lift the pear

Citrus Spark over Pear Serenity: a bright, juicy blend for hot days and long afternoons.

How to layer, step by step

  1. Start with clean, moisturised skin. Scent holds better on skin that is not dry.
  2. Spray the deeper scent first on the wrists and at the base of the throat. Let it dry for a minute.
  3. Spray the lighter scent once over the same points, or on the neck and clothes, from about a hand's width away.
  4. Do not rub. Rubbing breaks the top notes; let the scents settle on their own.

Little things that help

  • Two scents from the same family are the safest start. Two from different families are where the fun is.
  • Try a new pairing on your wrists first, one scent on each, then together.
  • Less is more. Layering adds strength, so use a little less of each.
Not sure where to start? Take the scent finder to find your main scent, then add a second one from the pairings above.
